Summit Night: Your Epic Kilimanjaro Night Hike Adventure with Hike Talk Stay Adventures! Brace yourself, Kilimanjaro climbers for the peak of the peaks!

Updated: Aug 19

Tonight's the night you conquer the "Roof of Africa"! Get ready for an unforgettable adventure under the starlit sky. We all felt mixed emotions of exciting and some fear over what challenging are ahead, but be confident in yourself, your training, and your guides. We share the same goal, to get you to the peak and back safely.

Camp at Barafu or Kosovo (higher and 1hr closer to the summit) Base Camp: Both have helipads for helicopter descent or emergency evacuation.

This is your launchpad to summit glory! As soon as you arrive, snag some rest – you'll need it for the climb ahead. Think of it as a pre-game nap before the biggest hike of your life! Dinner will be an early affair, but don't worry about catching Z's just yet – the excitement is electric at this altitude! Try to get some rest and awake at 111pm. Set your alarm and if not your guides will wake you.

11 PM: Mission Brief!  Your awesome Hike Talk Stay Adventures guides will swing by your tent with a steaming hot drink and some pre-climb snacks. Fuel up and grab your trusty daypack – it's time to turn on your headlamps (hopefully you didn't forget the batteries in your luggage at the hotel) and get this summit party started!

Conquering the Night:  Around midnight, we embark on our epic climb. Imagine trekking through a blanket of stars, the Milky Way lighting your path. This is Kilimanjaro like you've never seen it before! We will have some surprises and energy boosts waiting with our guides for you.

Energy Hacks for Peak Performance:  Remember, you're a summit machine, not a sluggish sloth. Our guides will keep you moving at a steady pace, but don't forget to "feed the climb"! Snack on your favorite energy bars, trail mix, or candy – whatever keeps your engine purring. Hydration is key too, so keep that water bottle handy. Dont forgot as you climb higher, your bio breaks are important to keep your body safe and sound. Feel free to tell the guides to stop to relieve yourself.

Maintenance Stops: Refueling for the Next Level:  These aren't your average rest breaks. Think of them as pit stops to refuel and recharge. Quickly grab a bite, adjust your clothes (layers are your friend!), and don't forget to throw on a warm jacket before stopping to avoid heat loss. Every second counts on summit night!

One Step at a Time:  We'll set a comfortable pace, ensuring you don't burn out before reaching the top. Slow and steady wins the race (and the bragging rights)! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, and before you know it... Your water bottles might freeze, but we know and will teach you on how to deal with these issues.

Daybreak & Breathtaking Views:  As the first rays of sunshine kiss the horizon, you'll reach the crater rim. Get ready for a jaw-dropping moment! Panoramic views unfold before you, with the majestic peak of Mawenzi stealing the show. Down in the crater, witness the glaciers – the legendary "snows of Kilimanjaro." This is pure magic! Black rock and white ice/snow contrasts will be viewed.

Uhuru Peak: Roof of Africa Awaits!  From the crater rim, it's a final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa (and freestanding mountain in the world)! At 19,341 feet above sea level, you'll be on top of the world (literally!). High fives and photo ops are mandatory! This process is a long 8 hour day of trekking (descent might also be another 5-8hrs depend on your groups pace and any altitude sickness mitigation for individuals in the group. Most groups will reach the summit by sunrise or a little after sunrise as a treat!

The Descent: Celebrating Your Victory!  After soaking up the summit glory, it's time to head back down to Base Camp. Remember, going down can be tough on the knees, so use your trekking poles for balance and take it slow. Much of the gravel/volcanic rock is loose so you may enjoy sliding if your daring and use your poles to balance, while keeping your guide close by your side. The good news? As you descend, the air gets thicker, making every breath a refreshing reward for your incredible accomplishment! For those with sinuses issues, your nose will start to drip and your headaches will start to subside. Talk to your guides about anything your body is experiencing and get their expert advice, do not hold back!

Back to Base Camp & Beyond:  A celebratory lunch awaits at Base Camp before one last night on the mountain and for most groups another rapid descent that same day to the lower camps. Rest up, reminisce about your epic adventure, and dream about the amazing stories you'll tell back home. The next day, a scenic trek down through the forest will lead you back to the trailhead, where a comfy post-climb hotel awaits.

This, my friends, is just the beginning of your Kilimanjaro accomplishment! Hike Talk Stay Adventures and its expert guides have turned you into a summit superhero, and the world (and your friends and family) await your tales of conquering the "Roof of Africa"!
