Kili Gear Selection

Updated: Aug 25, 2024

Here are some tips on how to pack for climbing Kilimanjaro:

You don't have to bring all your climbing gear to Tanzania. You can rent the required equipment from our shop online or when you arrive, which is more budget-friendly than buying new gear. This is a great option for first-time climbers or those without their own gear.

When it comes to clothing for Kilimanjaro, keep in mind that you'll be trekking through different climate zones, so be prepared for various weather conditions. Make sure to pack the right jackets, including a fleece jacket for insulation and a warm jacket or down jacket for chilly evenings and summiting.

For trousers/pants, you'll need trekking pants, membrane pants, and warm trousers or ski pants. Having the right clothing layers is essential for your comfort and safety during the climb.

Don't forget about essential items like hiking underwear, shirts, bags, and backpacks. A high-quality daypack and duffle bag are necessary for carrying your essentials and gear.

Footwear is crucial for a successful climb. Choose high-quality hiking boots and trekking socks to protect your feet and prevent blisters.

Other important items include headgear, sunglasses, a headlamp, trekking poles, gloves, a sleeping bag, and personal and medical items. Consider optional items like wet wipes, power banks, an e-book, and an MP3 player for added comfort and convenience during your trek.

If you're new to mountaineering, consider renting some of the equipment you need to save on costs. Hiring gear can be a cost-effective solution, especially if Kilimanjaro is your first big climb.

Remember to pack wisely and prioritize comfort and safety for your Kilimanjaro adventure!
